Willies Place is gone from Sirius radio
When Sirius satellite radio changed the original Willie’s Place programming they dropped Tony Booth, Johnny Bush, Frenchie Burke, Amber Digby, Landon Dodd, Tony Douglas, Dottsy, Bobby Flores, Tea Goans, Jake Hooker, Georgette Jones, Billy Mata, Darrell McCall, Mona McCall, Frankie Miller, Kimberly Murray, Joe Paul Nichols, Curtis Potter, Lonnie Spiker, Justin Trevino, Ron Williams and Leona Williams, and many others.
In fact the original Texas Honky Tonk format established by Eddie Kilroy and Gary Hightower – on the air as Catfish – is now gone for good.
When you think about it, however, what they actually did was drop almost everyone associated with the television show “TruCountry”, and many others.
What does that tell us about real country music and traditionalists? About income, revenue, and residuals for artists we once heard? For that matter, what does this tell us about the future of Texas Honky Tonk music – the country music we all grew up with?
