I made the album that I wanted to make with Bill Green in San Antonio on Electric Cactus Records. Debbie Green promoted the first two singles off of the album last year and got both of them to the Top 50 in Texas. Last week we released a new single called “Tag,You’re Hurt”, a ballad that I wrote about my divorce a few years ago. I am getting to do some real cool things these days. I opened for Gary P. Nunn last week and I’m doing a show with Johnny Lee next month. Some days I think, “Now why did I leave Texas and spend 15 years in Nashville again?”

Al and Galen Dean will be at the 11th. Street Cowboy Bar and Grill, Bandera, Texas, Feb.19, 2010. Al Dean said:
You know, I always loved good dance music. I’ve danced to all of the big swing bands, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington. Count Basie. Harry James. Live. In person. They were great; but nothing can take the place of a good buckle polishing country ballad. Western swing is good but it seems that every tune becomes a fast boogie or a slow boogie. It’s getting to be like the Nashville artist, “Who was that.”
I’ve built my reputation on playing music that you can dance every song. I’ve never recorded a song you couldn’t dance to. Plus when you hear me sing, you know that’s Al Dean. I think that’s the problem with music now-a-days. It has become generic. I heard a tune by a rising country artist just today. He couldn’t yodel so he was making fun of us who could.
The problem now-a-days, is who cares?
