Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition will be inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame May 15, 2010. Billy Mata and his band, Texas Tradition, have been together for more than twenty-five years.

James Hand and I have a running joke about James coming to Missouri to mow my grass. Heather Myles recently told me James would mow my flowers, small trees, etc., to which James replied “I think I wrote a song about that. It’s called “A Little Bitty Slip”.

Jody Nix will be in Bandera Texas on April 16th, at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar from 8:30 to 12:30. Jody is a true supporter of traditional country music and supports Willie’s Place on Sirius/AM radio.

The Justin Trevino and Amber Digby duet album, “Keeping Up Appearances” should be ready for you to purchase by May 7th. Be on the lookout for CD release parties at Pearl’s Dancehall in Fort Worth, Spurs in Magnolia, and Ginny’s Little Longhorn in Austin Texas.

Rural TV broadcasts traditional country music to television audiences in the UK and Ireland. On the 15th of April The Country Classics will publish the entire Rural TV country music schedule for May 2010. Rural TV is on Sky Channel 279 and Freesat 403.

It is my understanding that Willie Nelson has pulled his name from the theater and truckstop in Carl’s Corner, Texas.

The Gene Watson and Amber Digby Show will go on as scheduled for Saturday night with absolutely no changes, but other performances are on hold for the time being.

Evidentally, the daily live broadcast with Dallas Wayne on Willie’s Place on Sirius/XM will be moved to Luck, Texas, from Carl’s Corner in the near future. Of course the great music programming will remain the same as always on Willie Place on Sirius/XM. Speaking to the issue Tracy Pitcox said:

All of us at Heart of Texas Records appreciate what Willie’s Place at Carl’s Corner has meant to our artists in both personal appearances at the Nightlife Theater and selling of our Heart of Texas Records projects on a daily basis in their wonderful truck stop.

We wish every one involved only the best and look forward to working with both Willie and Carl in future endeavors.

The second song of the night was a great traditional country music song by Heather Myles titled “Mama’s A Star”. The song is from Heather’s CD titled “In The Wind”. Leslie Sloan’s harmony was beautiful as always.

Following Heather Myles was Justin Trevino with “When She Does Me Right” as the third song of the night. From Justins’s CD “Take One As Needed For Pain”, Justin’s delivery is strong and perfect. Traditional country music at it’s finest, viewers also saw Amber Digby singing harmony.

Justin Trevino continued with “I Just Lost My Favorite Girl”, again with help from Amber Digby. The dance floor was crowed, and the song highlighted Bobby Flores on fiddle followed by Jim Loessberg on steel guitar. A video of this song is on Youtube.

The final song of the night featured Heather Myles and Justin Trevino together, singing “This Time I Know We’re Gonna Make It”. Written by Guyanne McCall, the song is on Justin’s CD “Take One as Needed For Pain”.

As always the Tru Country band was perfect. Band members are Bobby Flores on fiddle, Jim Loessberg on steel guitar, Jake Hooker on upright bass, Bob Gothar on lead guitar, Larry Mitchell on drums, and Bodie (Bode) Barker on piano.

Darrell McCall opened the show, after an introduction by Tracy Pitcox, with “There’s Still A Lot Of Love In San Antone”, followed by “Dreams Of A Dreamer“, as song in our music video library. Darrell was great as always.

After the break viewers saw a brief interview with Darrell and Mona McCall, followed by Mona McCall’s performance of “Keeper Of My Heart”.

Darrell performed “Lillydale” if you read the graphics. When you search for the song the actual title is “Lily Dale”, the title track of the CD “Lily Dale” by Darrell McCall. As always, we put the title in this article both ways to help you locate the great song “Lily Dale”. On Youtube the song is referred to as “Lilly Dale” as well.

Honky tonker Heather Myles was up next with a perfect song loved by fans of real country music. “Nashville’s Gone Hollywood” could be the theme song for traditional country music fans everywhere. Miss Leslie Sloan sang harmony on the “Nashville’s Gone Hollywood”. The song is on our music video library.

Heather Myles spent years on the road to get where she is today. Her tireless dedication is also the motivation behind Tru Country on RFD TV. The show is a Mylestone production.

Heather Myles performed the last song of the night which was “Sweet Talk, Good Lies”, another honky tonk favorite.

As a traditionalist I am glad to see these artists on television. I’ve written about all of them in previous articles, and received a copy of Bode Barker’s CD today. Yesterday I heard from Bobby Flores, and many of the stars of Tru Country can be your friends on Facebook.

Danny Edwards said “I will be playing a valentines dance at the Melody Oakes Ranch in Priddy TX. Feb.13 with Dan Naccarato, Ronnie Dale Shultz and Bruce McNutt. Bring your Honey or someone elses honey and come out and dance to some good traditional country music and some western swing 9 till 1.”

Landon Dodd said “Willies Place on Sirius/XM just started playing four cuts off my new CD “Call of the Wine” yesterday and I got to hear it today myself. A lot of hard work went into that record so there’s a lot of satisfaction that it’s starting to get noticed.”

Bode Barker said “We had a sold out show with Leona Williams in Marble Falls this weekend. She sounds better than ever! Ron was there also and did a great job. I’ll have a pickin high all week thanks to Leona!”

Al Dean said “Everybody get set for the big valentine weekend dance in Nelson City on Sat. Feb. 13, bring your valentine or come out and find a new one. The results are the same. A good time had by all. Al and Galen Dean will be presenting their “Dancing with the allstars show” Nelson City is About 7 miles north of Boerne off …I-10 at the Welfare exit. Hwy. 289.This is a big hall, lots of room and people friendly.”

Bill Groll of Country Roots Music describes his efforts with “Traditional & Classic Country, Honky-Tonk, Rockabilly, Folk, Bluegrass… our true American Roots.” Bill added The Country Classics to the Country Roots Music Guide this week.

Teresa Burleson reminds everyone to listen to Judy James’ radio program, Cowboy Jubilee. “So far I have heard Jean Prescott, Donnie Blanz, Waddie Mitchell, Red Steagall, Juni Fisher, Ian Tyson and many more. Right now she is playing my good friend Stan Mahler!”, said Teresa.

Tracey K. Houston had a birthday on February 1st. The event was celebrated at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville, with featured entertainment by James Intveld. With snow in Nashville musicians struggled to get to performances this past weekend.

The Country Classics added new features to the website this week. Visitors can watch hundreds of traditional, classic country, and truck driving music videos in any of three music libraries. Online games were also added this week.

Justin Haigh spent four days this month in Nashville with producer Lew Curatolo and sound engineer Pete Greene finishing up his new album. The yet to be named album is due for release this spring.

It was the fifth show of season one, and we noticed bass player Jake Hooker switched from the upright bass to a standard bass guitar for this show. Heather Myles acknowledged Jim Loessberg on steel guitar and Bobby Flores on fiddle during her performance.

Dallas Wayne is an on-air personality on XM/Sirius satellite radio. You can hear him in the afternoons on Willies Place, XM-13/Sirius-64. Dallas Wayne follows veteran Bill Mack and the Bill Mack show Monday through Friday. Wayne’s current CD is titled “I’ll Take The Fifth”. He is originally from Springfield Missouri.

What reminded me of Rosanne’s interview was a question I was asked earlier today. Someone asked “Why don’t they play old country classics on the radio?” Another reader asked “Is there a place online where you can find and hear old country music?”

During a recent interview with Heather Myles, on True Country, we heard Heather tell Rockwell about international interest in traditional country music. Our website statistics tell the same story.

After a brief welcome from Heather Myles the show opened with Jake Hooker performing “Faded Lights and Lonesome People”. For more about Jake Hooker see our article titled “Review of Jake Hooker’s Outsider CD from Startex Records”, and our article about his new CD “Lost Along The Way.”

Jake Hooker is a great guy and a talented musician. Jake played the bass fiddle on each song as part of the TruCountry band.

Miss Leslie only sang backup for Heather Myles and she was not part of the band during the entire taping.

As a traditionalist I am glad to see these artists on television. I’ve written about all of them in previous articles. What many people do not know is I retired from the Marine Corps and my wife retired from the Army. We served a total of 45 years, and were glad to see Stars For Stripes for Wounded Warriors as a sponsor for TruCountry.

After the break James Hand performed “In the Corner, At the Table, By the Jukebox” and “Don’t Tell Me That”. Both songs are on his CD “The Truth Will Set You Free”, and our article about the CD is here.

Rockwell was the on-screen announcer. You may have noticed that the credits at the end of the show thanked Trouts in Bakersfield (Oildale). Trouts is a nightclub and Rockwell’s full name is Tom Rockwell. That is the tie-in.

The reason you saw a CD by Dallas Wayne is because he is an on-air personality (DJ) on Willies Place, XM-13 and Sirius 64. Willies Place is a great venue for traditional country music and gives the music nationwide exposure. Thanks to RFD TV the music now has more exposure.

The show also thanked Tracy Pitcox. He was also an announcer on TruCountry but was not seen on the show. Tracy Pitcox works tirelessly to promote traditional country music. Late on Christmas eve he told me we are all working for the same goal. I certainly hope The Country Classics answered your questions about the show, gave you more insight, and helped in your quest to learn more.
