I was discussing traditional country music with Ralph Hampton this weekend, and if you’ve listened to Ralph Hampton you know he is well informed and very knowledgeable. Ralph agreed to share some of our discussion with readers of The Country Classics, and I’m sure you will find it as facinating as I did. Here is Ralph Hampton:
I took some music to the restaurant this morning when we went for breakfast. Our office is on Main Street in Windsor Missouri, right near the 4-way, so I can see the Wagon Wheel Cafe from the office. We know who is there by the trucks parked out front. Nancy and I headed out with some music by Dan Roberts and Gary P. Nunn. Three of the guys at the Wagon Wheel are ranchers. Two more showed up a few minutes after we did.
Scoring big in two of our favorite categories Dan Roberts combines Cowboy Country and truck drivings songs with his hit “A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy” (trying to make his living on the road). In today’s economy Dan’s song might be even more timely as he sings “Pushing cattle just don’t pay enough so I guess I’ll have to haul another load.”
The fine people over at Sweetgrass Talent pointed us to Todd Fritsch, saying this musician would be a good fit for the audience here at The Country Classics. They are right about that. Since this is also Cowboy Country month for us, allow me to introduce of Todd Fritsch. A cowboy, rancher, and fine country singer Fritsch has the honesty and sincerity of George Strait and Dan Roberts. Todd has reportedly recorded 5 brand new songs with his new production team in Nashville, Tennessee and is ready to present the fresh material to his fans.
We are proud to tell you that Dan Roberts received the Western Heritage Wrangler Award “Outstanding Composition for 2008.” Dan Roberts is a nice guy and we are glad to see him receive the award.
Cowboy Days are underway. Bands, artists, and fans can submit songs of the west and cowboy songs. Just give us a link to your Soundclick page, website, MP3, or just generally put our writers on the right track. We are CD Tex music delivery members so you can do it that way too.
We purchased the Dan Robert’s CD “Cowhand.com” and truly enjoy listening to this CD. Dan’s wife sends us an email whenever Dan releases a new CD, which is pretty cool. Dan Roberts, the Academy of Western Artists Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year, has his original style of cowboy western music. We will review the entire CD, track by track, in an upcoming article.
