Ray Price birthday wishes from all of us
Another year has passed and Mr. Ray Price is another year older, just like the rest of us. His birthday is January 12th, and Ray will be 84 this year. Last year I talked to Ray and simply said happy birthday and Semper Fi, a term known to U.S. Marines everywhere as ‘Always Faithful’.
UPDATE: See Ray Price on Ralph Emery Live – read more
Born in Perryville, Texas, Ray Price served in the Marines from 1944-1946, and began singing on KRBC-AM in Abilene, Texas in 1948. He joined the Big D Jamboree in Dallas in 1949. He arrived in Nashville in the early 1950s, rooming for a short time with Hank Williams.
Here we are in 2010 and Ray Price’s influence in country music is amazing. Sometimes I think The Country Classics is more like a Ray Price encyclopedia crossed with American Idol, where Ray Price is the American Idol. There is nothing wrong with that.
Last year Eddie Kilroy’s morning show on Willie’s Place was a big hit on January 7th, when Ray Price was on the show. When the show was over Kilroy and Ray got in their pickup trucks and drove home. Both men are to be commended for all they’ve done for country music, but this weekend and the days to comes are Ray Price’s days.
Happy birthday my friend.
