Nominees for Greatest Honky Tonk Songs Volume 1
This is The Country Classics list of all-time greatest honky tonk songs as selected by our publisher, Tim Blake. The distinction between honky tonks, saloons and dancehalls is often blurred, especially in cowtowns, mining districts, military forts and oilfields of the West.
Just call it good country music if you want to.
Some of these songs are 50 years old, give or take a few years. They sound as good today as they did when they were recorded. All of these songs are recorded by artists who became country music legends.
While attempting to leave a lasting impression on country music in only three minutes these songs became classics, not only of their own time but of all time. They left their stamp on country music when country music was changing, yet transcend fifty years or more.
These songs are a foundation for today’s traditionalists. They do not focus on Nashville, nor Bakersfield, nor Texas. Instead these songs focus on the framework and backbone of country music – the fans.
The Country Classics nominees for the greatest honky tonk songs Volume 1 are as follows:
Patsy Cline – Shoes
Porter Wagoner – Till The Right One Comes Along
Ray Price – Heartaches By The Number
Ray Price – Crazy Arms
Skeets McDonald – Call Me Mr. Brown

Vernon Oxford – Shadows Of My Mind
Webb Pierce – Walking The Streets
Wynn Stewart – Wishful Thinking
George Jones – Imitation Of Love
Hawkshaw Hawkins – Who Will Buy The Wine
Jim Reeves – Little Ole Dime

We call it Volume 1 because there will be another list. There always is. Add your suggestions using the comment form that follows this article.
