Jerry Reed passes away at age 71
Jerry Reed lived each day like he just wanted to have fun. He passed away at the age of 71 from complications related to emphysema. His hits included “Amos Moses,” “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” “East Bound and Down,” “She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)” and “The Bird.” Nothing displayed fun and a full life like Jerry Reed performing on stage, or on the big screen as an actor. We all remember “Smokey and The Bandit.”
Born in Atlanta, Reed learned to play guitar at age 8 when his mother bought him a $2 guitar and showed him how to play a G-chord. He dropped out of high school to tour with Ernest Tubb and Faron Young. At 17, he signed his first recording contract, with Capitol Records.
Jerry Reed will be missed. Eastbound and down good buddy.
