James Hand has the featured CD of the week

James Hand is a hard working performer who reminds me of Hank Williams, if only to say that Hank influenced James Hand.

James Hand and The Country Classics featured CD of the week
Not too long ago I heard James on Willies Place, and Eddie Kilroy had James Hand on his show one morning. His CD titled “The Truth Will Set You Free” has been in my CD library for a while now, and the truth is I should have written about it long ago.

Let’s go to James Hand’s website – this link will open a new window – and take a look at his music. For instance, you will hear about one minute of his song “Shadows Where The Magic Was,” but the song actually lasts for over four minutes. Without pause, and no gaps where the band plays, James works hard and sings the entire time. When you buy James Hand’s music he performs for you.

The track list for “The Truth Will Set You Free” is packed with favorites:
1. Banks of the Brazos
2. Baby, Baby, Don’t Tell Me That
3. Here Lies a Good Old Boy
4. I’ve Got a Lot of Hiding Left to Do
5. If I Live Long Enough to Heal
6. In the Corner, At the Table, By the Jukebox
7. Leave the Lonely Alone
8. Little Bitty Slip
9. Just an Old Man With an Old Song
10. Shadows Where the Magic Was
11. Truth Will Set You Free, The
12. When You Stopped Loving Me, So Did I

When we realized the tremendous amount of work, dedication, and effort James puts forth in his music we were impressed. Every song is fresh, and every song tells a story. Watch James work and you’ll see how hard it really is to be a honky tonker.

I think James actually works harder than he would if he came to my place to mow my grass. James told me once, on Eddie Kilroy’s show, that he would mow my grass since I bought “The Truth Will Set you Free.” While I didn’t believe it, I got a few good smiles from his offer. Catfish said James would tell me anything if I already bought his music, but I certainly don’t mind. His CD’s are priceless.

Without a doubt James Hand’s CD “The Truth Will Set you Free” is one of my favorites, and long overdue as our featured CD of the week. You can buy the autographed version or the regular version directly from his website.

Spring is almost here, and this year I have a lawn mowing suggestion for James. Together we will mow Ray Price’s grass. I will drive the riding mower, while James runs the weed-eater. What do you think? Besides, at 55 James is younger than I am. Cowboy up my friend.
