Here Comes The Bride by Bobby Austin is ready for rediscovery

Our featured song of the day is Bobby Austin’s “Here Comes the Bride” from 1960. Bobby Austin only cut two songs for the Challenge record label and this was a 45 RPM record that features “Polynesian Baby” and “Here Comes The Bride.”

Austin didn’t have any hits while at Challenge, but would find his fame in 1966 with the song “Apartment #9″ on Tally, then followed with a few minor hits on Capitol in the late ’60s, before his ultimate chart 45, “Knoxville Station” in 1972.

Here is a webpage that features the song, and here is a link to the MP3 itself.

The recording is 49 years old, and the MP3 has a little too much bass. I have the song on a 33-1/3 record, but it is scratchy and worn out from too much play. I guess it’s safe to say I have always liked Bobby Austin’s “Here Comes The Bride” and treasure my original recording of the song.

With steel guitar and fiddles, this honky tonk song is ready for re-release and inclusion on a new CD. “Here Comes The Bride” is just as good today as it was 49 years ago. For a great steel guitar player like Jim Loessberg the song would be a perfect and fresh new way to highlight his steel guitar playing.
