Charlie Walker - A Honky Tonk In Dallas, As We Remember Charlie
Those of us that remember the country classics remember the many songs of Charlie Walker. Today’s featured song is Charlie Walkers “A Honky Tonk In Dallas (Was To Blame)”, but Charlie Walker did sang more songs with “Honky Tonk” in the title than anyone else. Of course I have no second source or reference to that fact, but I put forth some of the list:
Honky Tonk Season
Honky Tonk In Dallas
Don’t Put Down The Honky Tonks
Close All The Honkly Tonks
Out Of A Honky Tonk
Honky Tonk Song
And the list goes on — I rest my case.
The world of country music lost a good friend and a great singer when we lost Charlie fought the good fight but lost his battle with cancer recently. Walker died on Sept. 12, 2008, in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He was 81 years young. Charlie’s voice is pleasant to listen too.
Charlie Walker performed Harlan Howard’s song “Pick Me Up On Your Way Down” and made the top of the charts, to number 2, with that classic. On Willie’s Place, XM-13, you often hear “Wild as a Wildcat” from 1965 and “Don’t Squeeze My Sharmon” from 1967.
As our featured song of the day we present the late great Charlie Walker performing “A Honky Tonk In Dallas”.
His first hit, “Only You, Only You,” was co-written with Jack Newman and reached number 9 on the country chart in January 1956. Here is a look at Charlie performing “Pick Me Up On Your Way Down”. You will see Jimmy C. Newman at the very end of the video.
