From the desk of Tracy Pitcox: Grand Ole Opry Legend Wilma Lee Cooper passed away on Tuesday of natural causes at the age of 90. She was at her home in Sweetwater, Tennessee.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Don Wayne, who wrote or co-wrote country music hits including “Country Bumpkin” and “Saginaw, Michigan,” has died in Nashville. He was 78.
Texas Country Music entertainer Joe Paul Nichols passed away on Wednesday morning at his home near Jacksboro, Texas. He was 69. Nichols had been battling Lou Gerhig’s disease for four years.
RICHMOND, Va. – Jimmy Dean, a country music legend for his smash hit about a workingman hero, “Big Bad John,” and an entrepreneur known for his sausage brand, died on Sunday. He was 81.
Herb Ellis, a jazz guitarist whose polished, blues-inflected playing earned him critical acclaim as an outstanding soloist and worldwide recognition as a member of the pianist Oscar Peterson’s trio, died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 88.

Mel Street was born in Grundy Virginia but did not become a coal miner like most of the community. His real name is King Malachi Street. Mel Street was born on October 21, 1933 and comitted suicide on his 45th birthday, October 21, 1978. Always a sad event, what makes this even more sad – if that is possible – is that Mel Street released a song that same day titled “Just Hangin’ On”.
Steel guitarist Bobbe Seymour reminds everyone “February 2nd is the anniversary of the death of Jimmy Crawford. Jimmy was an extremely talented steel guitarist, he was extremely innovative with a style of his own that could sound like Segovia or hard core bluegrass steel guitar.
WSMV reported that Country Music Hall of Famer and former Grand Ole Opry member, Carl Smith died on Saturday at the age of 82.
