A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy by Dan Roberts
Scoring big in two of our favorite categories Dan Roberts combines Cowboy Country and truck drivings songs with his hit “A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy” (trying to make his living on the road). In today’s economy Dan’s song might be even more timely as he sings “Pushing cattle just don’t pay enough so I guess I’ll have to haul another load.”
Whether you are a city driver in a day cab or a long-haul driver making a cost-to-coast run “A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy” is sure to please. When I listen to the song I think of wide open spaces and the beauty of America. “It’s a picture of a cowboy’s dream”, sings Dan.
I was thinking of Dan Roberts as I watched the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo this week from Las Vegas. Dan Roberts doesn’t just sing about cowboys. A true rodeo cowboy he rode broncs and bulls. I have a picture of Dan on Deep Water, the 1980 PRCA bucking horse of the year. The last time Dan called he told me a story about driving to a rodeo with Red Stegall, while listening to Eddie Kilroy on the radio.
“A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy” is on Dan’s “Cowhand.com” CD and you can preview it from his website at Old Boots Music. You should also visit Dan on MySpace to hear more from “Cowhand.com” by clicking here. (opens in a new window)
When visiting Cowhand on MySpace you’ll notice Dan Roberts doesn’t just give you a sample of his songs. You will hear the full version of “A Trucker’s Just A Cowboy”, “Wranglers, Ropers, And Big White Resistols”, “The Cowboy Song”, “If They Only Knew A Cowboy”, and of course “Cowhand Dot Com”.
Nancy and I don’t always agree on honky tonk and the old cover songs, but when it comes to Dan Roberts music we always agree. This is one of the best CD’s we ever bought. We also bought Dan Roberts “There’s A Little Cowboy In All Of Us” CD.
Be sure to check out Dan’s latest CD “Beyond The Brand” at his website OldBootsMusic.com
Whether a trucker’s just a cowboy trying to make a living on the road, or perhaps a cowboy is driving a truck, it’s time to add Dan Roberts to our truck driving music category. We were at a pro bull riding event in downtown Kansas City not too long ago and had to admire the truck drivers bringing in the cattle, electronics trucks, and support trucks. Tight spots, no room to move around, and low clearance was the name of the game.
Whether you drive for yourself, a company, the PBR, or perhaps the PRCA, we salute truck drivers everywhere and we salute Dan Roberts.
