The Mason Country Opry will be staged on Thursday, August 27, at the Odeon Theater in downtown Mason. The show begins at 7:30 PM and admission is $8.00 per person. Tickets will be available at the door.
Jimmy Depoy is the headliner for the Mason Opry. DePoy is a sixteen year old guitar player, singer, song writer and music producer. He was born at Cary, NC August 25, 1993. He got his first guitar for his eighth birthday and never put in down. He made his first public appearance before his ninth birthday at Six String Café in Cary.
Before he moved to Texas in July 2005, when he was eleven years old, he had performed at several restaurants, clubs, civic functions and schools. Some highlights were playing six shows for the largest Harley Davidson Motorcycle dealer in NC; performing at the side stage at the 2004 NC State Fair; The Country Music Showcase for Performing Arts, in Smithfield; NC and on the local CBS television station.
Since he arrived in Texas, Depoy has continued his musical career with appearances from Seguin and San Antonio to Mason, Llano and Austin. He entered the Colgate Country Music Showdown at the Gillespie County Fair three times placing 3rd each time.
Depoy can play several styles of music but his favorite is still the old Country Classics by Jimmie Rodgers, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and others.
Thanks to his little guitar he has met in person Little Jimmy Dickens, songwriter Freddy Powers, played on stage with Rattlesnake Annie, Butch Morgan, Pauline Reese and a host of others.
Depoy is trying to learn the music business from the ground-up. He has his own recording studio and produces his own CD’s which he sells at performances and by mail at his web-site, www.jimmydepoy.com. He arranges all the music, does all guitar and vocal tracks, mixes and masters the CD’s. No one else has performed on any of his CD’s yet. On his last CD, “ROLLIN’ ALL THE TIME” released in July 2009 he even designed the label and cover with his computer.
Depoy has written and copyrighted eight songs, he always does a few at every performance and they can be found on his various CD’s. He still has his first little Guitar, (a Baby Taylor), and his collection has now grown to six guitars and a couple sets of sound equipment. He works hard at school to keep up his all “A” grade average and hopes to continue his song-writing and performing career.
“Jimmy has been working our shows as a guest during the last few years,” Opry MC Tracy Pitcox said. “This is the first time that he has headlined a show and we are excited to help advance his career in the music business.”
Other entertainers on the Mason Country Opry will include Justin Trevino, Kelsey Behrens, Lonnie Atkinson, Shane Lively, Benny Fred Kothman and Sammy Geistweidt. Tracy Pitcox will MC the show.
